Cops failing compulsory fitness test will be referred to PTS, Valpoi: Parsekar

PANAJI: In order to ensure better policing, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has said that police personnel who fail the annual fitness test will have to undergo training at Valpoi police training school.

Speaking at a sports function organised by police department at GRP ground, Altinho on Friday, Parsekar said that a police officer’s fitness will be checked annually and results will be reflected on annual confidential report of police personnel who fail the test three times. He said that the issue of physical fitness of policemen was an important one as only fit cops are “more efficient and more capable.” He said that policing is a demanding job so the issue of physical conditioning is also directly related to safety of people.

Parsekar also said that police department has upgraded the physical fitness centres (gym) at GRP camp, Altinho and at the office of SP (South) that will be kept open for public in order to create police-people friendly state.

Informing about the anti-terrorist squad, Parsekar, who also holds the home portfolio, said, “We have strengthened the squad with 116 personnel. The department will recruit and depute young personnel in the squad by relaxing the age limit to below 30 years.”

The department has also made special arrangements with Manipal Hospital to provide free clinical examination which would either cost them Rs 3,000 starting from next month whereas to control diet, focus has been laid on weight loss and diet management wherein consultant from Diet Clinic a diet consultancy will visit GRP camp, Altinho and SP (South) office every Thursday from 8 p.m-10 p.m.
