MARGAO: Curtorim MLA, Mr Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco said that he will support people of Curtorim in opposing the proposed controversial multi-housing project in the village.
Speaking about the project, he said that he had once requested the concerned builder not to go for a multi-housing complex, instead think about smaller structures.
"I am with the people of Curtorim. I had requested the builder not to go for a multi-housing complex, instead he can think of building smaller structures,’’ he said while speaking to ‘The Navhind Times’ on Monday.
He however said that if the builder is willing to construct a sewerage treatment plant and take care of his own garbage and if he rethinks on the proposed project focusing on smaller structures the project can be allowed.
"Any development should not be at the cost of the villagers and the village,’’ he maintained. The villagers have been opposing the project since 2009.
Meanwhile, Curtorim panchayat members will be meeting the concerned builder on Tuesday, before taking a final decision on the controversial multi-housing project.
The panchayat has decided to meet the builder and convey sentiments of the villagers. It may be noted that the sarpanch had convened a special gram sabha to seek villagers’ opinion on the proposed project following court directions. The builder had moved court highlighting that he had NOCs from various government departments for the project. At the special gram sabha, the villagers had rejected the project on environmental grounds.
"Along with villagers the panchayat also does not want the project," said Mr J Rodrigues, deputy sarpanch. He said after the Tuesday’s meeting with the builder, the panchayat will take a final call on
