Tiatr Academy Goa (TAG) recently marked its third anniversary. Addressing members of the General Council of Tiatr Academy, Goa, Tomazinho Cardozo, president, TAG expressed satisfaction over the fact that TAG has done great service to the cause of development of tiatr during the last 3 years.
He highlighted 30-odd schemes formulated by TAG for the promotion, preservation and development of tiatr. The schemes that aim at bringing all round development of tiatr includes documentation of oral and written history of tiatr, documentation of tiatr literature, promotion of tiatr in villages, promotion of children’s tiatr, promotion of tiatr music, remembering tiatr artistes of yesteryears, promotion of patriotism and national integration through tiatrs, orientation courses in dramatics, lifetime contribution awards, etc.
In order to give boost to commercial tiatrs, TAG organises a yearly Popular Tiatr Festival besides giving financial assistance to dramatic troupes going to Mumbai, Poona and other parts of the country. The schemes ie yearly Konkani song and music awards, promotion of duets, duos, trios, quartets and dance aims at improving the standard of Konkani song (kantar). Schemes like Meet the Artiste- ‘Kolakorak Bhett’ and the monthly programme, Remembering Tiatr Artistes of Yesteryears have become very successful.
Mr Cardozo thanked the Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat for forming the Tiatr Academy of Goa and for giving him (Tomazinho Cardozo) the opportunity of becoming its first president due to which Mr Cardozo said he could set a definite direction for the development of tiatr. He expressed his gratitude to the director of Department of Art and Culture, Mr Prasad Lolayekar for his support to TAG. He also thanked all members of the General Council for co-operating with him in shaping the destiny of TAG.
The General Council passed a unanimous decision to congratulate and thank Mr Tomazinho Cardozo for his passionate efforts. On this occasion a Report of activities of TAG for the last 3 years was released. Also released on the occasion was the Citizen’s Charter for Tiatr Academy Goa, providing details of all the schemes of TAG.
Vice President of TAG, Mr Roseferns, Premanand Lotlikar, Prince Jacob, Anil Kumar, Daniel D’Souza, Mario Menezes, Premanand Sangodkar, Fr Nevel Gracias, Sharon Mazarello, Jessie Dias, etc, and all members of the General Council participated in the discussion.
