Syrian troops storm central city

BEIRUT: A human rights activist says Syrian troops have stormed into a central city, killing at least one person and wounding 20 in attacks that included heavy machine gun fire.

Mr Rami Abdul-Rahman, the London-based director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, says forces backed by armored personnel carriers pushed into several neighbourhoods in Homs. An activist in the city said that clashes occurred after security forces on Sunday killed the son of an anti-regime tribal leader. The activist says the unrest lasted until 5 am on Monday.
In Damascus, the government of the President, Mr Bashar Assad moved into a second day of talks on possible political reforms, but key opposition groups have boycotted the dialogue.
