Panaji: Two more people were reported to have tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus (COVID-19) on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to five in the state.
As per the media bulletin released by the directorate of health services, the reports from the National Institute of Virology (NIV) at Pune have confirmed that out of the total 56 samples sent on March 27, two cases are reported positive for COVID-19. Both are male patients, aged 37 and 19 years.
One of the patients has a travel history of returning to Goa from the Bahamas via New York and was quarantined at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, while the other patient is a close contact of a positive case, detected earlier, and was in the isolation ward at Sub-district Hospital in Ponda.
These two patients have been shifted to the ESI Hospital in Margao, which is a dedicated facility for COVID-19 positive patients. Three patients, who previously tested positive, are also being treated in the ESI Hospital. The three persons with history of travel to Spain, Australia and the US tested positive for the viral virus on March 25.
Fortunately, no new suspected case of COVID-19 was reported on Sunday. Till date, Goa has seen 70 suspected cases of COVID-19, of which ten are still in the isolation ward of the GMC.
On Sunday, 17 more passengers have been placed under home quarantine; around 894 persons have self-isolated themselves at their homes in the state.
At present, three persons have been quarantined at the North Goa District Hospital, seven at the Sub-district hospital in Ponda and 35 persons have been quarantined at the Margao Residency.
