Panaji: The coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis is keeping the state health officials on their toes, as the number of persons suspected of having the contagious virus has gone up in Goa.
On Tuesday, 16 more fresh suspected cases of COVID-19 were reported in the state, this is the highest number of suspected cases reported in a single day. All 16 patients were quarantined at the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.
On Monday, six persons were quarantined in the isolation ward of the GMC, till date Goa has seen 92 suspected cases of COVID-19, of which 32 are still in the isolation ward of GMC.
As per the media bulletin issued by the Directorate of Health Services (DHS), on Tuesday, nine more passengers were placed under home quarantine; around 912 people have isolated themselves in their homes in the state.
At present, three persons have been quarantined at the North Goa District Hospital, six at the Sub-district hospital in Ponda and 46 persons have been quarantined at the Margao Residency. There are also 14 more persons, who have been quarantined at the Old Goa Residency.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has said that the newly setup virology laboratory at the GMC is fully operational adding that reports of four samples have tested negative while the reports of two samples are still awaited.
‘Tomorrow we will be able to conduct 20-25 test and in the next two-three days we can carry out test of 35-40 samples in a day,’ he said.
