15 cops on duty at Collem self isolate after truck cleaner tests positive

Ponda: Taken aback by the report of a truck cleaner having been found positive for the COVID-19 on Saturday, around 15 policemen posted at Collem checkpost have isolated themselves and sought to undergo COVID-19 test. The 15 policemen include home guards, constables and hawaldar who had checked the truck at the border and whose cleaner is now COVID positive.

As per information, the stated truck had entered Goa via Collem checkpost on May 14 and the police personnel on duty had checked documents of the truck, consignment and had also checked the cleaner and driver with thermometer gun before letting them through. Now, with the cleaner of the truck testing positive, around 15 policemen have self-isolated themselves.

“We are scared to go home as we do not want to risk lives of our family members and as the cleaner who passed through the checkpost is found positive, we fear that we may catch the virus. Considering it, we have demanded our COVID-19 test to be done,” said one of the policemen, while speaking to this daily.

When contacted, Deputy Collector of Ponda stated that all 15 policemen, who came in contact with the cleaner, have been asked to be home quarantined and all will be tested for COVID-19 in batches.

Meanwhile, sources informed that, all 15 policemen visited the Sub District Hospital at Ponda for COVID-19 test, but could not undergo the test.
