The Navhind Times Zest workshop with Neomi Barneto was held on Sunday, December 16 at Dempo House, Panaji. Open to those above the age of 16, the 80 participants included lawyers, homemakers, businesswomen, doctors, beauticians, accountants and college students. The half-day session aimed at giving participants tips on different types of hair styles and make-up besides covering the dos and don’ts of make-up and grooming.
Neomi began the session with an introduction to hair care and make-up with the help of a PPT presentation. She then explained the importance of knowing one’s face shape to decide about a haircut or style and spoke about the different face shapes in detail. “Besides the shape of your face, it is important to consider your features, hair texture and personal style before choosing a hair style,” she said. In the session that followed she gave useful tips on hair care. “Health on the inside reflects on your hair too. The healthier you are, the better your hair looks. If you want to have really good and healthy hair, eating right is a must. Certain nutrients like vitamins, iron and proteins are essential for your hair growth and health. If you are unable to obtain enough from your diet, then you need to consider supplements. A good diet for hair will also boost your confidence to stay healthy and smart,” she stressed.
The workshop was a judicious mix of demonstrations and talks on the dos and don’ts of hair and make-up. In the first demonstration, four simple, easy, can-do-at-home hair-styles were shown along with a few tricks on getting a softer and casual look.
In the second part of the workshop, she demonstrated the use of make-up for different occasions. “Everyday makeup is all about sticking to the “less is more” motto. You want to know how to strike the perfect balance between looking put-together and not having spent hours in front of the mirror experimenting,” she said. She also spoke about the use of make-up as a tool to empower women and had participants engaged from the word go.
“For a fresh face, it’s helpful to mask any under-eye bags or dark circles with a touch of concealer. It’s also gentle enough to never irritate this delicate and sensitive under-eye area. Stick to a concealer that’s just two shades lighter than your natural skin colour so that you don’t draw further attention to this tired area,” she advised and gave expert tips on application of blush, liner, mascara and eye-shadow.
Throughout the demo, Neomi explained each step she undertook and stressed on the importance of cleansing, toning and moisturizing. “Removing your make-up at night is a very important part of maintaining a clear complexion and avoiding spots and acne. And if you leave your mascara on all night it dries the eyelashes, which causes them to crack and break off,” she said. She recommended good quality cleansers and spoke about the wonders of exfoliating. “Even homemade scrubs are amazing if they work for your skin,” she added.
In the question-answer session, Neomi cleared many doubts as well as gave tips on applying and buying make-up and advised, “Don’t overdo any makeup. Instead use less and if it is inadequate, you can always add more, but subtracting is far more difficult. Proportion is everything. Just enough is most effective.”
The workshop ended with Neomi thanking the participants for being a wonderful audience and presented each participant with a gift bag that was appreciated by all.
