Young cabbie found dead inside taxi at Dabolim

Vasco: In a mysterious incident, a taxi driver identified as Damodar Yamnappa Mangalore (24), a resident of Zuarinagar, was found dead in his taxi that was parked next to the four-lane highway near INS Hansa gate in the vicinity of Dabolim international airport on Thursday afternoon.

As per information from Vasco police, the deceased was spotted on the driver’s seat of the taxi at around 2.30 pm. The deceased was said to be ferrying tourists arriving at the Dabolim airport without any valid permission.

Although police are verifying whether there is any foul play into his death and also investigating the angle of rivalry with tourist taxi operators, his brother Uday Kumar Mangalore has ruled out such a possibility and suspects that his brother might have died due to some sickness.

The family members were searching him since he had failed to return home on Wednesday evening. Somebody noticed the abandoned car on Thursday afternoon.

Vasco police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) after conducting the scene-cum-inquest-panchanama.  The body has been preserved for postmortem to ascertain the cause of death. Police sub-inspector Pramila Fernandes is investigating the case under the supervision of PI Nilesh Rane.
