Goa police have provided round-the-clock security cover to Sahitya Akademi award winning Konkani writer, Damodar Mauzo, following information about threat to his life.
Mauzo, who resides in South Goa, confirmed the news to ‘The Navhind Times.’
Although Mauzo has not received any direct threat, he has been intimated by the police about the possibility of fatal attack on him, based on central intelligence reports.
It is learnt that the related lead came from the interrogation of the alleged killers arrested for the murder of Gauri Lankesh, in Bengaluru in 2017.
Mauzo, known for his progressive thinking and writings has been provided with 24×7 security guards by the police in spite of his reluctance to avail the facility. Mauzo, who initially refused the police security, agreed for the same after the seriousness of the matter was spelt out to him by the police authorities.
It may be recalled that the Special Investigation Team of the Karnataka Police probing the murder of Lankesh, has made a number of arrests in this connection.
