The Indian Concrete Institute (ICI), Goa, organised a one-day workshop on additives in concrete at Hotel Fidalgo recently. The workshop aimed at creating awareness on enhancing the properties of traditional concrete mix with the help of additives. It focused on modern construction which demands several enhanced properties of concrete. According to industry stakeholders, there has been increased awakening among the professionals about the resource crunch specially in concrete and companies are looking judicial use of resources which can be achieved with the help of additives in concrete. Apart from discussing new structures, the workshop also discussed the selection methodology for the use of grouts, epoxy polymers required for the repair of the old structures.
Eminent personalities were invited to deliver presentations. The topics included, modern concrete and the role of additives, role of fibres in modern concrete, need for passivation of concrete and making corrosion free concrete.
The workshop also had presentation of case studies and the experiences of QA/QC in-charge in the usage of these additives at Dilip Buildcon, Goa. The workshop aimed at providing a platform for interaction with manufacturers and delegates. It received participation from government agencies, structural engineers, architects , project management consultants, designers as well as academicians.
