The research centre of Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College, Assagao, organised a state-level workshop on academic writings in Commerce, Management and Social Sciences for higher secondary school Teachers. The resource person MR Patil, director, D M’s College Research Centre, said that academic writing skills are a real asset to the academicians working in different academic institutions. He explained the different academic writings like popular articles, scholarly articles, research proposals for funding agencies, books, business proposals, annual reports of schools and colleges, brochures, executive summary, resume, etcetera and discussed how academic writings benefit teachers. He also said that writings inculcate in teachers a spirit of enquiry, command and confidence over the subjects, help in expressing complex ideas in simple ways, creative thinking and generating original ideas which would certainly bring about a feeling of enrichment and academic achievement. Patil explained how to present a research paper at national and international seminars / workshops. He pointed out that the presenter has to be clear and confident with the purpose and text of the presentation; and that PPT slides should be very precise and one should not depend more on PPTs. At the inaugural function, the principal, DB Arolkar welcomed the teachers and expressed happiness over their keen interest in learning academic writing skills. He highlighted that academic writings are indeed specialised skills and these skills are value addition to the teachers. Coordinator of the workshop, Paresh R Sirsat, while extending thanks to the participants requested them to take an active part in the discussion of the workshop.
