The Goa Womens Forum (GWF), a Margao based outfit, is observing women’s rights awareness month from March 8, International Women’s Day. The GWF awareness campaign will put special focus on women’s right to be informed and right to seek redressal.
The campaign will cover areas of consumer literacy, health and sanitation, road safety and electoral literacy. Some of the issues that will be highlighted during the month are financial literacy, sexual harassment, crime prevention, lack of women’s participation in village gram sabha meetings, escort service websites promoting sex tourism, neglect of women senior citizens, consequences of non communicable diseases, human trafficking for commercial sexual exploitation, neglect of widows, impact of alcoholism and tobacco consumption, lack of access and over charging in public toilets and discrimination due to physical disabilities among others.
The month long awareness campaign will have the active involvement of women volunteers of consumer forums and will end on April 7 on the occasion of World Health Day.
