International Women’s Day is an occasion to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities. The GCCI women’s wing organized a function to showcase Goan women achievers from various fields as a part of celebrations of the day on March 17 at a city hotel. The chief guest for the function was Dame Indira Patel who is the rirst Indian woman to be knighted for her exemplary work on women’s rights in UK, EU and UN. Anjali Sehrawat, collector, South Goa was the guest of honour.
Women achievers who spoke on the occasion were Shradha D Sawant, manufacturer and award winning proprietor of Star Agro Products Pvt Ltd, Dr Seema Salgaonkar, associate professor and head, department of political science, Govt College, Khandola, Dr Rachana Patni Pereira, founder of Matrix of Enquiry and co-founder Lightwork, Ethel Da Costa, award winning fashion and lifestyle journalist, Usha Sardessai, businesswoman cum artist and Dr Pramod Salgaocar. As part of the function, the women entrepreneurs showcased various products manufactured by them. An ice breaking session was held followed by a welcome address by Dr Jennifer Lewis e Kamat, chairperson, GCCI women’s wing. Varsha S Naik, co-chairperson, proposed the vote of thanks and the function was compered by Sonali Nagvekar, member.
