The people from Sanguem taluka who will be affected by the proposed eco sensitive zone of the government have decided to organise various programmes including a public meeting, signature campaign and a resolution by the panchayat in order to pressurise the government not to include their villages in the eco sensitive zone.
The decision was taken during a special meeting conducted in colony no 1 of Vaddem rehabilitation site.
The meeting was attended by Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar, Vaddem sarpanch Sanjog Pai, deputy sarpanch Kusht Gaonkar, deputy sarpanch of Netravali Abhijit Dessai, Adv Anand Gaonkar, panchayat members and villagers.
Anand Gaonkar said that as per the eco sensitive zone no construction or commercial activities will be allowed in 1 km area radium between the boundaries of wild life sanctuary and eco sensitive zone. This will prohibit even the re-construction of houses. Though it is said that repairs of houses will be allowed in the eco sensitive zone area, there is no clarity as who will be the authority to allow the repairs of houses, he said.
The villages which come under the eco sensitive zone of Sanguem include Nune, Dongore village, Villian, Bhaati and Kumeri village, parts of Netravali, Naigini, Curdi, Selaulim, Tudav, Ugem, Xelpem, Andurlem and Pattem villages.
By December 5 the central government will prepare the final affidavit in respect of the eco sensitive zone.
MLA Prasad Gaonkar said that first it was the forest act then it was the wild life sanctuary act and now it is the eco sensitive zone act which is going to make the life of villagers miserable and difficult. Gaonkar said that it is the right time to come together and fight unitedly against the decision of the government of including the villages into the eco sensitive zone.
The villagers have formed a Gram Saurakshan Manch (village protection forum) to fight against the eco sensitive zone. A signature campaign will be launched soon. The panchayats will pass a resolution opposing the eco sensitive zone. Special gram sabhas will be conducted to draw the attention towards their demands of rejecting the eco sensitive zone.
The MLAs of Valpoi, Sanguem, Sanvordem, Quepem and Canacona will be submitted with memorandums seeking their support to campaign against the eco sensitive zone. Finally, a huge public meeting will be organised to demonstrate the strong opposition to the eco sensitive zone.
Others who spoke on the occasion were deputy sarpanch of Netravali Abhijit Dessai, Kust Gaonkar, Chanda Velip, Upaso Gaonkar, Manoj Paryenkar and others.
