Verna SC pip DBO Fatorda

Verna SC entered the quarterfinals of Our Lady of Fatima Cup football tournament defeating Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda 5-4 via tie-breaker, at panchayat grounds, Dicarpale on Tuesday.

The teams played a 1-1 draw during the regulation time. DBO, Fatorda started the match on a promising note and went into the lead through a goal scored by Cayven Araujo in the very fifth minute.

Verna SC took time to settle down and gradually came back into the game as they levelled the score in the 20th minute through Cristo D’Mello, whose elegant effort gave no chance at all to the DBO Fatorda keeper.

The match thereafter was played on even terms. The teams matched each other well in all the departments of the game and made sudden forays to outwit each other.

Even though the teams tried hard to score in the second session, their efforts were not enough to beat the keepers at either end. As the teams were involved in a deadlock, the tie-breaker system had to be adopted to decide the winners wherein Verna SC proved better shooters scoring accurately through Myron Fernandes, Savio Fernande6s, Vijal Rego and R Moniz.

DBO Fatorda could find the mark only through Roque Borges, Cayven Araujo and Velito Miranda.
