VASCO: Verna Industries Association (VIA) has opposed the hike in the lease rent and also the charges of raw water supplied to all the industries at IDC Verna.
Addressing a press conference, VIA president Damodar Kochkar, general secretary Rajesh Prabhu, treasurer Sandeep Prabhu and executive secretary T K Pawse said that the GIDC has hiked the lease rent and raw water charges without taking industries into confidence.
They said there are 472 units operating at IDC Verna and that they require raw water for their functioning.
On lease rent hike, Kochkar said that “this will be a substantial burden on the industries.” He disclosed that all industries in Goa have expressed strong opposition to the decision taken by the GIDC. “If the GIDC fails to resolve the issue of lease rent then the industries at IDC Verna along with the support of others would decide on further course of action,” said Kochkar. It was disclosed that the GIDC has also decided to increase the tariff of water from PWD from Rs 32 to Rs 48.
VIA general secretary Prabhu said that IDC Verna is facing extreme problem of water shortage, power failure and even there are no proper roads.
“We will be writing to the GIDC to do a rethink on its decision. We will also be meeting Minister for Factory and Boilers Vijai Sardesai and Water Resources Minister Vinod Paliencar to resolve the issue of industries at IDC Verna,” said Prabhu.
