SANKHALI: Villagers of Velguem in Bicholim taluka, at the gram sabha on Sunday, unanimously made a demand that the panchayat authorities resolve the border issue of Velguem and Surla villages in order to pave the way for executing development works and to conduct a proper census.
At the onset of the gram sabha held under the guidance of the sarpanch Durgadas Naik, a villager Sudesh Gaonkar raised the issue of demarcation of the border of Velguem panchayat which is pending for years. He said that there is no proper census of number of houses which creates hindrance in planning for development works.
Gokuldas Kamat brought to the notice of the gram sabha the issue of haphazard parking in Velguem market and along the main road leading to accidents. He demanded that the panchayat take action against traffic rule violators.
Villagers also demanded to lift garbage from vendors in the Velguem market on a daily basis in order to keep the village clean thereby keeping diseases at bay. The issues were raised by Prajyot Shilkar, Harichandra Gaonkar, Kamlakant Mayekar and Siddhesh Mandrekar.
The meeting was also attended by deputy sarpanch Samantha Kamat, and panch members Mukesh Ghatwal, Govind Gaonkar and Kedar Ghadi. Villagers also raised various other problems. Medha Fondekar was the observer at the gram sabha.
