Vacant posts in VPs will be filled, says Panchayat Minister

MACAZANA: Notwithstanding growing complaints from Village Panchayats over processing of files, the Minister for Panchayats Rajendra Arlekar on Saturday said that the government will soon be recruiting more junior engineers to expedite the process.

Speaking exclusively to The Navhind Times, he said that the government had recently recruited an executive engineer for the zilla panchayat while the BDO was provided with a junior engineer, however the junior engineers for some reason do not work in close co-ordination with each other and as a result the work gets hampered.

Arlekar said that he will soon be streamlining the functioning and will be deploying more junior engineers who will have to report to the executive engineer in North and South Goa which will expedite the process of clearing the files.

Replying to a question on countless complaints about the junior engineer attached to Salcete BDO, Arlekar said he has taken cognizance of the complaints and soon action will be imitated against him.

On the Deendayal Rural Infrastructure Development Scheme the Panchayat Minister said that while the response to the scheme in Salcete has been dismal, it is upto the village panchayats to take an initiative and come forward with a proposal for projects.

He said that last year about 30 village panchayats came forward with proposals while 21 are in the pipeline adding that the government is providing funds for generating revenue in the villages.
