VASCO: The retired officer from the Indian Army Capt Smita Gaikwad who works as a research scholar with a Mumbai based think tank ‘Forum for Integrated National Security’ (FINS) has said that urban Maoists are the real mastermind behind the menace of Maoist terror in the heartland and unless the urban Maoist network is destroyed, it is impossible to end the problem of Maoist violence in India.
She was speaking as a key note speaker at Late Dada Arlekar Memorial Lecture on ‘National Security’, organised by Chaitanya Pratisthan Goa in association with FINS at mini auditorium of Ravindra Bhavan Baina on Tuesday. The Chaitanya Pratisthan Goa president Rajendra Arlekar and secretary Rajeev Dhavlikar were present on the occasion. Several prominent citizens of Vasco and also from all over the state had attended the programme.
She stressed the need for a comprehensive strategy to tackle urban Maoists and to defeat Maoism in India. She highlighted and spoke on urban Maoism, a threat from within. She explained in brief about the inhuman acts and has condemned the killing of thousands of innocent Adivasis in the areas of Bastar and Gadchiroli.
“Maoists operating in Bastar are puppets of their intellectual strategists operating from urban areas. Unless the urban Maoist network is destroyed, it is impossible to end the problem of Maoist violence. Even Maoists who have surrendered say Maoism in Bastar is surviving because of urban Maoists, who are the real masterminds of this war against India. They misuse provisions of democracy to destroy democracy”, informed Capt Gaikwad.
