The departments of chemistry and electronics, St Xavier’s College organised a two-day National Seminar in association with Department of Science, Technology and Environment, Government of Goa. The topic of the seminar was ‘Recent advances in applied chemistry and electronic technologies’.
The seminar was attended by about 180 students and teachers from colleges in the state, Goa University, industry in Goa and colleges from Karnataka and Maharashtra.
Resource persons were professor M P Yashoda from Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal; professor M B Deshmukh, professor P N Bhonsale and professor S R Patil from Shivaji University, Kolhapur; professor H M Mahesh from Bangalore University; Deepak Chodankar from Symlink Network, Mumbai; professor Srinivas Krishnaswamy from BITS Goa and Sandeep Dey from Goa University.
Technical sessions were chaired by senior faculties Tushar Anvekar, Teotone Vaz, Vilma Fernandes, Kathleen Pinto, Edwina Pereira, Isabel de Noronha, Daryl Gonsalves and Vinod Mandrekar.
Research paper presentation had in total 33 poster presentations from Goa and neighbouring states. Judges for these were Mallikarjun and Velavan from NIT Goa and Bhanudas and Sumeet from Goa University.
The national seminar provided an opportunity for undergraduate, postgraduate and research students, teachers from science colleges and universities to interact with experts from reputed universities.
Academic scholars and researchers presented their papers and shared their experiences, new ideas, research results, as well as discussed the practical challenges encountered and the solutions adopted. The technical sessions through presentation and talks by renowned researchers portrayed the growth of science and technology and its applications in industries, human welfare and environment.
