British motorcycle brand Triumph is revving up its operations in Goa. The superbike brand is set to have its first dealership in Porvorim to cater to Goan customers, said Vimal Sumbly, managing director, Triumph Motorcycles India Pvt Ltd, on Thursday.
He said that talks for a dealer-partner are in advanced stage of finalisation with the showroom expected to be opened in six months. “The dealership will go a long way in increasing Goans’ confidence in the Triumph brand. It will encourage locals to go in for multiple models and improve our reach in a potential market,” said Sumbly.
He added that Goans have a keen knowledge of superbike brands and are authentic bike riders. “Previously they purchased Triumph models in Pune, Mumbai or Bengaluru but now they will be able to buy in their own state,” said Sumbly. The local market currently comprises of over 50 owners of Triumph, pointed out Sumbly.
The high-end brand is launching a new model, a 1200 cc, classic cruiser in the India Bike Week, Vagator, taking place on November 24 and 25. Over 1,000 owners of the motorcycle brand will be arriving in Goa to participate in the IBW, said Sumbly. “The riders will promote safe and responsible riding as a core message,” he said.
A 115-year motorcycle brand, the Triumph market worldwide is estimated at around 67,000 bikes. In India the market size is estimated at about 4,500 bikes, disclosed Sumbly. He said that the company is in the process of expanding its marketing network from 14 dealerships currently to 17 dealerships in 2018 and 25 dealerships by 2022. Most of the dealerships are planned in tier-two cities.
In price, the brand is positioned at the top-end segment of super bikes with price starting at Rs seven lakh and going up to Rs 22 lakh. The Triumph plant in India is located at Manesar, Haryana.
