Minister for art and culture, Govind Gaude said that there is a need to share knowledge and ideas with others so that new ideas and innovations can spring forth. He was speaking at the concluding function of a ‘Lac work workshop’ on Friday.
“In Goa there are many talented people, who have the skill and know the art, but not many want to share it with others and due to which we tend to lag behind. We need to help others by sharing ideas so that they can come up in life, be independent,” said Gaude. He added that there are plans in the pipeline to procure material which is required to make Lac jewellery from North India so that participants can take the lead and set up their own enterprises.
The director of art and culture, Gurudas Pilarnekar also said that under the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat programme’, the directorate has planned several more activities which will help people gain knowledge about various arts and crafts. “People need to make good use of these workshops. They can learn new things and in the future start their own home-based business,” he added.
Participants also shared their views and said that if the days of the workshop were extended they would have got to learn to make many other jewellery items as well.
The workshop was conducted by expert in Lac work, Jhabar Mal who thanked the department for inviting him to teach people about lac work and said that people should learn more skills and never stop learning.
