VASCO: A fishing trawler worker was murdered by his co-worker following a quarrel over some issue late Sunday evening at the Khariwada fishing jetty in Vasco.
And, the Vasco police, acting swiftly, arrested the accused trawler worker on Monday afternoon.
Vasco PI Nolasco Raposo informed that the accused, who have been identified as Akib Lugun (35), a native of Orissa, had an altercation with his co-worker Mithun alias Sameer (32), on board the fishing trawler at around 11 pm on Sunday at the jetty. The accused, who was under the influence of alcohol, in a fit of anger, assaulted the victim with a danda on his head.
“The victim collapsed on board the trawler and succumbed to his injuries.”
“The victim was rushed to the Cottage Hospital, Chicalim, but doctors pronounced him dead on admission,” informed Raposo while briefing the media on Monday afternoon
“The accused fled the scene following the crime,” he added.
“A team of police consisting of Mormugao PI Shailesh Narvekar, police sub-inspectors Ritesh Tari, Diago Gracias and Sarvesh Sawant besides head constable Santosh Bhatkar, police constables Sachin Bandekar and Dhiraj Pagi conducted intensive search operation and even held nakabandis in and around Vasco to detain the accused,” said Raposo.
The accused was then nabbed at a wine shop in the heart of the town while he was purchasing liquor at around 5 am by the police team.
The police recovered the danda which was used by the accused to assault the deceased.
The accused, who was arrested under Section 302 of IPC, will be produced before Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Vasco, on Tuesday for obtaining remand.
