Travelling film festival ‘Samabhav’ stops at DBC


Men Against Violence and Abuse (MAVA) in collaboration with the department of social work, Don Bosco College (DBC), Panaji hosted the second edition of Samabhav, a travelling film festival film. The films covered issues from gender-based discrimination to challenging the male gender stereotypes and dominant model of masculinity.

Present at the inaugural function was festival founder and director, Harish Sadani; manager, Fr Joaquim Lobo; principal, Cedric Silveira and chief guest and consul general of Sweden, Mumbai, Ulrika Sundberg.

Addressing the audience Sundberg asked them to open-minded and accept all genders. After introducing the festival concept, films like ‘Boys who like Girls’, ’Any other day’, ‘Eli Eli Lama’, ‘Khara ki Kota’ ,’Juice’, ‘I am Bonnie’, ‘S Durga’, etc, were screened.

Sadani, Mamta Kumari, Francis Fernandes, Milroy Goes, Sabina Martins, Christine, Diana Dias, Nishtha Desai and Sundberg engaged those present in active discussion on several topics such as patriarchy, struggle for identity, online harassment, gender bias, etc.

The festival was attended by students, filmmakers and those interested in films.
