Tiatr Personality – JP Pereira

Dhongiponn

John D’Silva narrates happenings and the selfishness practiced by various individuals in different capacities and positions of authority, when they could easily help a deserving individual. Dhongiponn recounts the story of a swimmer who is refused financial help by everyone she approaches.

Shabana has won the swimming contest among the southern states of India.  She now plans to go to Australia to participate in a competition there. This is going to be expensive as it is a big jump. Her father Thomas has no money and is advised to go to the local MLA for help. She refuses saying “there is nothing in this for me.” They approach a TV channel, an NGO for women empowerment as well as a newspaper for help but they all refuse. The two of them then appeal known tiatrist.  His advice and the ensuing activities form the rest of the play.

The writer-director wants to inform the public that good messages are not promoted by most of the media and NGOs who are looking only for sensational news that increases their ratings and income. At times the news is even blown out of proportion. However, the swimmer and her father do not approach any of the entities like the Sports Authority which could help.

The cast performs well with Meena Goes as Shabana the swimmer with big dreams, Peter de Pedda plays the humble father, Meeta as the selfish politician who refuses help and Aloma who impresses as the chief of the NGO. Augusto de Calangute is the TV reporter and Ivon writes for the newspaper. John D’Silva plays Urbano, the man who advises and preaches. He is joined in the comic acts by Kenny who is quite amusing and impressive in the act with the leader of the NGO. Remmie and Dudush.com lend commendable support for the comic acts.

Cristo (trumpet), John (saxophone), Jaison (drums), Jose (keyboard) and Twiggy (bass) back the various songs. The opening song by Ivon has good lyrics. The tiatr has songs by Meeta, Aloma, Augusto de Calangute, John, Ivon and others.
