Thousands of people witnessed the annual Carnival float parade in Mapusa which had more than 46 floats participating in various categories. The float parade began from the Tar bridge and ended at Gandhi chowk.
It was flagged off at the hands of chief officer Clen Madeira in the presence of Ryan Braganza, chairperson of Mapusa Municipal Council and councillors on Tuesday evening.
There were categories which comprised traditional section wherein five floats participated, in family section there were six floats, the clown or joker category with 14 participants and institution section with 15 floats, ‘fun junk’ had six floats and four floats in sponsored category.
The traditional floats, which received an appreciation from the people, were ‘Goenche Kumbhar’, ‘Goan Poder’ and’ Goan spices’. Floats based on the theme of ‘Amchi Matti’, ‘Goa 2020 National Games’, ‘Don’t destroy Goan traditional wells’, ‘Road safety’ were also enjoyed by the Carnival crowd.
Meanwhile, the Cuncolim Art and Culture Association on Tuesday organised its third Carnival float parade.
The float parade commenced from the Dandora- Buinsa junction and culminated at the Cuncolim KTC bus stand. Cash prizes were awarded to the first three winners of the floats in the general category.
Prizes were also arranged for the Cuncolim ward-wise floats with cash prizes for the first two winners. Cash prizes were also given for junk cars and clowns/ jokers category.
