The Advanced Photography Workshop organized by The Navhind Times’ Planet J was held on Sunday, September 28 at the Dempo House, Panaji. Fifty students in the age group of 17-21 participated in the half-day workshop which was conducted by Prasad Pankar.
“Change the way you look at the world and learn how to see creatively,” said Pankar as he commenced the workshop. He explained that to enhance photography what comes into play is creativity. Speaking on the various elements of design like lines, shapes, forms, textures, patterns and colours, he said that everything right from a hairpin to living spaces that need to be designed incorporate these elements. He included many photographs of not just his works but also those of some master photographers.
In the session dealing with B&W photography, Pankar emphasized the importance of having contrast and demonstrated how to achieve it. “It’s very important to develop B&W vision in order to succeed in B&W photography,” he said as he showed them how each and every shade of colour behaves when it’s converted to grey scale. He also elaborated on the role of grey card and exposure meter and backed it with more photographs.
There was a question-answer session after each topic and the participants all got an opportunity to have their doubts cleared. The workshop ended with a photo walk around Dempo House. Participants incorporated what they had picked up at the workshop into their photographs and many very creative pictures were clicked. Pankar picked four of the best and said, “All the pictures were good but these were the best.”
A very informative workshop. Helped us to learn how to observe things rather than just seeing things and learning the elements of photography has moulded our perspective of the everyday world around us.
