Ten men Goan Football Club came from a goal down to register a 2-1 win over Vasco Sports Club in the Goa Professional League organised by Goa football Association (GFA) played at Duler stadium, on Tuesday.
With today’s win Goan Football club stands on 3rd position with 28 points from 16 matches, while Vasco Sports Club stands on 8th position with 17 points from 17 matches.
Both the teams played each other just a few days back in the first leg where Goan Football Club had got the better of their opponents 3-1.
Though both coaches made three changes in their starting line-up, it was the Port Towners that dominated. However, it was Goan FC that returned home with a win.
All the goals came in the first session of play. Minesh Konkolkar scored for Vasco SC, while for Krishna Pandit and Yasir Mohammad scored for Goan FC.
Vasco SC took the Goa FC lads by surprise when in the 12 minute a power-packed strike from outside the penalty box by Minesh Kunkolkar curled into the goal, 1-0.
Goan FC could have equalised in the 19th minute when Krishna Pandit sent a cross to Sarineo Fernandes whose goal bound shot hit the crossbar and came back into play.
At the other end, Vasco’s Franky Oliveiro strike was brilliantly tipped over the crosspiece by keeper Mohammad Nawaz.
Goan FC broke through the vaco citadel in the 24th minute when Yasir Mohammad sent a through pass to Krishna Pandit who dribbled past Vasco defender Myran Pereira to score the equaliser, 1-1.
It did not take long for Young Gaurs to further inflate their lead when Yasir Mohammad –who was instrumental in the first goal – danced and dribbled past almost six of Vasco players and scored from top of the penalty box, 2-1.
However Young Gaurs received a jolt in the 35th minute as their defender Brain Faria was sent off by referee Paudurang Korgaokar for his second booking offense on Vasco’s Flan Gomes.
On crossing over, the Port Towners once again dominated and were camped inside their opponents half in search of the equaliser. First, Schubert Pereira’s effort went over the crossbar while Franky Oliveira failed to connect a neat cross by Schubert.
The next half an hour was mostly restricted to midfield, which came to live only in the 83rd minute when Yasir sent a cross to Lalawmpula whose header was punched away to safety by Vasco keeper Amit Das.
Vasco last chance to level terms came in the 90th minute but a weak shot from inside the penalty box at the far post was confidently pushed for a corner by keeper Mohammad, to give his team full points.
