Margao: After the 48-hour ultimatum issued by all-Goa taxi operators to sack the transport director Nikhil Desai, the taxi operators have convened a crucial meeting to discuss the future course of action on June 12.
The meeting will be held at Konkan Railway Hall, Margao with an agenda to find a way to stop app-based GoaMiles permanently.
The meeting also attains significance after eight taxi operators were arrested after a GoaMiles driver complained to the Colva police after being obstructed and tourists forcefully made to travel by a local taxi from a Varca hotel.
Despite the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant assuring of police protection to the app-based taxi operators, the tourist taxi was intercepted by eight local operators, who were later identified and arrested by the Colva police.
The standoff started after the app-based taxi operators and Colva operators clashed outside a GTDC tourist hotel earlier this month over parking of the app-based taxis, which was strongly opposed.
The issue later took a political turn with the Congress also extending support to the taxi operators against the app-based taxi
