Strong favourites Tamil Nadu clinched the AIFF-Junior Girls National Football Championship title with a resounding 4-1 win over Manipur in the finals played at Duler grounds on Friday.
Tamil Nadu, who were consistent in winning every match in the tournament, went into the breather with a cushion of three goals.
The South Indian state found it first goal in the 16th minute through Mariyammal B. who on receiving a pass from Durga scored with a neat placement.
It was in the 32nd minute when the Tamil Nadu girls doubled their lead through Priyadharshini who scored after receiving a square pass.
Before the half time whistle blew, the game entered extra time and it was then when Tamil Nadu saw its 3rd goal coming through Minnoliya who pumped it in after her shot rebounded the bar but safely got in possession and sent it home.
On resumption of play, Manipur who were already three goals down managed to restrict their opponents from scoring goals and in the 90th minute Oinam Lamnganbi Chanu scored with a brilliant solo effort
making it 3-1.
But the joy of a consolation goal didn’t last for too long as the fourth goal for Tamil Nadu once again came in extra time through Priyadharshini sealing the fate of the match with 4-1 on the board.
