A talk on the topic, ‘The Turmoil Within’ by Diwan Manna will be held this MOG Sunday on December 30, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Museum of Goa, Pilerne.
Manna is a contemporary Indian artist known for his soulful images and is one of the first exponents of conceptual photography in India. Through his artwork he raises questions about itself and what it represents. Coming from a painting and theater background his work depicts the crossing of boundaries between photography, painting, acting and the body arts. He tries to come to terms with the insidious and unrecognized forms of the degradation of our sense of life and honour within ourselves as well as in others.
He has been awarded by the National Lalit Kala Akademi in 1996, and has won other honours including AIFACS award in 1995 and in 1996, Photo Artist of the Year Honor, 19th Biennial Convention of Federation of Indian Photography (FIP), 1998; State Lalit Kala Academy Honor, Punjab,1996, Chandigarh Administration Honour.
His works are in the permanent collection of Museum of Asian Art, Berlin, Museum of Modern Art, St-Etienne, France, Deutsche Bank, Government Museum & Art Gallery, Chandigarh, Fine Arts Museum, Punjab University, Chandigarh and many other institutions and private collections. He has been exhibiting his work in France, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Poland and India since 1986.
