Tailored for Success

Deepa D Angle, owner, Fashion Gallery and Designer Boutique, Margao is modest businesswoman, says Sameer Bhatt

There are several tailors in and around localities but Deepa Gurudatt Angle, Margao is making a name for herself in designing  sarees and blouses. Her embroidery work, bead work, latest style and designs are as good as store purchased clothes. Deepa undertakes the designing of full set of wedding for families. “More Hindus and Muslims families approach me for designing and stitching traditional dresses” she says.

Presently she has employed one male cutting master, four tailors for stitching work and one female helper. Her business not only caters to her own needs but also helps to run the families of those whom she employs.

Success to her is not come overnight as she struggled a lot to come to the present position in tailoring and cloth designing. As a child she always had liking for fashion designing and so after passing SSC exam, on the advice of her mother, she did a vocational course in dress making, embroidery and fashion coordination. With inherent designing talent it was not surprising that she passed with distinction.

In 1998 she did BSc in Home Science from the Goa Collage of Home science, Panaji, in addition to successfully completing the course of specialization textiles and clothing. Further, she went to Mumbai and completed one year course in fashion designing.

After deliberations and despite stiff competition in Margao city, her mother advised her to open a shop in a building of their relation in Curchorem town.  For a year Deepa ran her business alone after which she employed two female helpers.

Later she availed loan from Khadi Gramodhyog and purchased a shop on the second floor of Ashutosh Building in Curchorem market where she is presently running her business in her shop Fashion Gallery and Designer Boutique.

In the Pretty Home exhibition organized at Margao, Deepa had opened a stall where she had exhibited her own designed clothes. The I T I, Kakoda invites her as a examiner in the tailoring and cutting course of the institution.

Presently she intends to open another shop in Margao city. If the youths choose their career at the right time according to their liking they will definitely succeed in their endeavors, is her firm opinion.
