MARGAO: A stone crushing unit run by Seema Dias, the wife of Cuncolim MLA Clefasio Dias has come under the scanner after Paroda villagers alleged that it is operating illegally and warned of filing a contempt petition against the authorities if they fail to crack down on the unit. The owner however termed it politically motivated and claimed that she has all the permissions.
Speaking to reporters after the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) team visited the unit on Monday morning, the owner Seema Dias said that all the documents are in place and the unit is following all procedures laid down by various departments. She said that the pollution control board has made some suggestions which will be followed as it was done earlier.
Earlier in the day, a GSPCB team visited the crusher and carried out inspection. The officials refused to directly interact with the media however said the report on the findings of the inspection will be put up before the higher authorities by December 26 adding the inspection was held based on telephonic complaint by a former sarpanch.
The villagers however claimed that there is total violation of law as the stone crusher is operating on land belonging to irrigation department which has been shown in the survey plan by the south Goa collector. They pointed out that the unit also operated from 2006 to 2015 sans any permission adding that the irrigation department had even issued demolition order for the stone crusher.
Further they said that the matter was taken to the National Green Tribunal which had directed the pollution control board to initiate action however it has failed to act and only after a warning, the board decided to carry out the inspection adding that they will file for a contempt petition against the stone crusher.
