The Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has said that statistics plays a vital role in planning the schemes and policies in the interest of the people. Planning helps to assess quality of expenditure, shortcomings, requirements etc, said the Chief Minister.
Parsekar was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of National Statistic Day organised by the Directorate of Planning and Statistics and Evaluation at Porvorim, on Wednesday.
Parsekar speaking further said that the Government cares for the poorest of the poor and therefore has planned and enforced various social welfare schemes. The launch of the Laadli Laxmi Scheme has enhanced respect for the girl child apart from improving male female ratio. There are also no incidents of suicide by farmers in the state because of the agricultural policy of the Government, the Chief Minister said.
Parsekar also appreciated the benevolent act of organising blood donation camp which was organised by the staff of DPSE on the occasion and appealed to the other departments to emulate the example.
Secretary Planning and Finance Daulat Hawaldar while speaking said that the challenge before the planners and statistician across the country are the incidents of suicide by farmers which will require positive approach towards the problems of farmers. There is significant change in receiving planning assistance from the Center. Planning Commission is replaced by Niti Ayog. Planning has to assess the quality of expenditure and come out with free and fair way to cater to the need, he added.
The programme was attended by faculty members from Goa University, statistician and staff of DPSE, and others attended the function.
In order to commemorate the National Statistic Day the Department of Planning and Statistic and Evaluation organised a blood donation camp which received overwhelming response from staff. More than 36 members of staff donated blood and were honoured with a certificate for their heroic act at the hands of Daulat Hawaldar Secretary Planning and Finance.
Jagdish Shirodkar was also felicitated at the hands of Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar for bringing out a publication titled ‘Population and Vital Statistics in Goa’.
Vikas Gaunekar, director DPSE welcomed the guests. Pauline Dias compered the function while Y Durgaprasad joint director DPSE proposed the vote of thanks.
