Student of Dr K B Hedgewar School, Cujira, Kannya Naik, won several prizes in the recently concluded Shigmotsava event. She participated in 14 fancy dress events and won 12 prizes of held across various cities of Goa as part Shigmotsava.
This year she was dressed in the theme of Ardhnarishwar Mahadev, a Hindu mythological character. Ardhanarishwara is a composite form of the Hindu God Shiva and his consort Parvati and depicted as half male and half female, split down the middle representing the synthesis of masculine and feminine energies of the universe.
The nine-year-old who is in class 4 was adjudged as the top prize winner in the Shigmo parades held at Mapusa, Korgao and Cuncolim while she secured second place in Vasco, Pernem and Mala (Panaji). At the Sanvordem and Dharbandora Shigmotsava she won third place and was awarded first consolation prizes at Ponda, Panaji and Bicholim.
She has also won various prizes at the fancy dress events in the role of historical and national leaders like Tilak, Shivaji’s mother, Arjun, Sita and so on. She also has helped in spreading social message through her role of ‘Farmer’ highlighting the issue of increasing unrest and suicides among farmers which won her over 50 prizes in various events held across Goa. She has won accolade for her role of ‘Globe’ giving message about global warming and reducing plastic waste and as ‘Goan Fish – Pomfret’ to awareness about saving aquatic species, at the four-day Mega Fish Festival organised by Government of Goa at Campal, Panaji.
A native from Shiroda and presently residing at Merces, Kannya is also fond of dancing, acting and has excelled in various dancing events.
