Goals from defender Socoro Colaco and striker Aaren D’Silva helped St Savio SC to secure a hard-fought 2-1 win over Youth Club of Manora in the GFA Second Division Inter-District playoff match played at Nagoa grounds, Verna on Saturday.

The Manora team could not convert their first half dominance into goals. Their strikers, Darren Fernandes and Schubert Colaco missed two clear chances, which turned out to be costly when the Calangute boys took both chances that came their way in the second session.

St Savio took control after the break. In the 52nd minute, Mathew Colaco beat two Manora players on the left flank and sent a cross to overlapping defender Socoro Colaco whose angular shot beat the Manora keeper all ends up,1-0.

Deep Govekar, Socoro Colaco, Daud Maldar and Richard Fernandes stood firm in the St Savio defence, not giving their rivals any chances.

St Savio controlled the midfield and dominated play. The second goal came in the 75th minute. Domnic Fernandes sent a long cross from the left flank to Aaren D’Silva, which the lanky striker headed in for St Savio to double their lead.

The next minute saw Manora pull a goal back. Substitute Jaison Fernandes tapped in a cross from inside the six yard box beating the St Savio keeper Selywn D’Souza. Youth Club of Manora tried hard for the equaliser in the closing stages. But resolute defending by St Savio saw them defend their lead and emerge winners.
