St Anne’s chapel in Saligao completes 175 years


On July 29 the villagers of Saligao gathered in large numbers to celebrate the feast of St Anne. The celebration started with Eucharistic celebration at 7.15 a.m. The main celebrant was Fr Romano Rodrigues and was con- celebrated by Fr John D’Silva. The feast mass at 9.30 a.m. was celebrated by rector of Saligao seminary, Fr Antonio Salema, in the presence of parish priest of Mae De Deus Church, Fr Mateus Rodrigues, Fr George Dias and Fr Pio Rego, both sons of Saligao.

After the Eucharistic celebration the souvenir marking the 175 years centenary of St Anne’s Chapel were released at the hands of Fr Salema and Fr Rodrigues. This was followed by the felicitation and distribution of certificates to students who excelled at the recent SSC and HSSC examination held for the year 2017-2018. Joydell Fernandes (SSC) and Roger Fernandes (HSSC) were given the certificates. This was then followed by the traditional feast procession.

A cultural programme was held in the evening. Music artists like Johnny ‘B’ Good and Valerie, Anali, Avila Marques, Jack D’Souza and comedians like Fancy Gleadiv and others entertained the audience. Nakita Fernandes and Kenaz Fernandes were chosen as the St Anne’s Queen and King.
