VASCO: Vasco Sports Club came from behind to hold formidable Churchill Brothers Sports Club to a 2-2 draw in the inaugural tie of Kingfisher Pro-League 2010 at Tilak stadium, Vasco on Saturday.Churchill Brothers led 1-0 at the break. Churchill Bros went into the lead in the very 6th minute following a defensive lapse through Israil Gurung.
Taking a free-kick from the top of the box, on the right flank, he sent in a floater towards the Vasco goal, which was headed towards Milagrio Medeir, the Vasco keeper by Durga Boro.
The ball slipped from the hands of Milagrio and before Vasco defender Queterio Pango would clear, on rushing Israil Gurung toed in to give Churchill the lead.
After change of ends, with the substitution of Aniket Jadav and Christopher Borges, the Vasco forwards dominated as Savio Fernandes’ header went inches over the cross bar and Joel Sequeira’s shot was saved in time by Melroy Fernandes, the Churchill keeper. That was in the 73rd and 74th minute.
Durga Boro accepting a short pass in the midfield from Rouhollah Samieinia went running solo and sent in a crisp grounder past diving Milagrio Medeira to make it 2-0 in the 77th minute.
The never-say-die attitude of the Vasco forwards saw them in the attack with fast moves and Joel Sequeira’s floater saw substitute Aniket Jadav head -in for reducing the margin in the 81st minute (2-1).
Four minutes later, Aniket Jadav sent in a power -packed drive towards Churchill goal, which slipped from the hands of Melroy Fernandes, the Churchill keeper and an opportunistic substitute Christopher Borges darted forward to make it 2-2.
Referee Chandrashekhar Shirodkar flashed caution card to Hardeep Singh and Rouhollah Samieinia of Churchill Brothers and Subhankar Dey of Vasco for dangerous tackle.
