MAPUSA: United Club Nerul secured their place in the next round of Calangute Panchayat Cup, organised by Calangute Association after they got the better of Saligao Sporting Club 5-4 via sudden death, at Poriat grounds here on Thursday.

In a lacklustre encounter, which never rose to any great heights, play was mostly restricted in the midfield with neither teams being able to open their account.

The game’s best chance came in the second session to Benit D’Sousa, however Saligao keeper Pantappa Harijan, came up with a brilliant block to deny the wily veteran.

In the penalty shootout John Vaz, Russel Fernandes, Benit D’Souza, Michael Monteiro and Newton Pereira shot on target for Nerul, while Uday Naik, Allan Gonsalves, Johnny Menezes and Nagendra Kumar, scored for Saligao Sporting.
