MAPUSA: A two-goal blitz by Charles Pereira enabled hosts United Club Nerul register a hard fought 2-1 win over Penha de Franca and enter the semi-finals of 3rd Colormax-Imperial Rolling Trophy, at Dr Gustavo Monteiro stadium, Candolim, here on Tuesday.
It was Penhe de Franca who took the lead in the 20th minute through Felix Colaco’s free-kick from top of the box, which had no answer from Nerul keeper Anson D’Sa, 1-0.
It did not take long for Nerul to level terms as Newton Pereira’s pinpoint cross from the left flank, was slotted into the goal by Charles Pereira, 1-1.
On crossing over Nerul’s McDavid Dias did try a couple of long rangers but it lacked accuracy.
In the 50th minute, Penha de Franca keeper stopped Pankaj Naik’s shot, while at the other end Milande Shinde’s strike rebounded off the Nerul’s upright.
When it looked that the match was heading for the penalty shootout, Avinash Pereira carried the ball from the defence, and set up Alex Simoes, whose rasping shot was blocked by the rival keeper, only to find Charles score from the rebound, 2-1.
