PANAJI: St Xavier’s College, Mapusa successfully defended the inter-college basketball (women) championships 2010-2011 defeating Don Bosco College 15-4 in the finals, on Tuesday.
Tejal Mahambre scored 6 points, Michelle Fernandes 5 and Alyxa D’Mello 4 for the winners. Samantha D’Costa of Don Bosco College scored 4 points for her team.
Earlier, PCCE beat Chowgule College 11-7. Raisa Prazeres 7, Ilona Rodrigues 2, Akarsha Kadam 2 were the main scorers for PCCE. For Chowgule, Kim Alemao scored 4 points, Nithya Rodrigues 2 and Kimberely Afonso 1.
Shree Damodar College beat GEC 18-5. Nelvie Mendes scored 14 points, Joshila Fernandes 4 scored for Damodar. Teja K 3 and Lee Ann 2 scored for GEC.
St Xavier’s College beat PCCE 37-6. Tricia Silveira 13, Tejal Mahambre 9, Fiona Soares 4, Michelle Fernandes 4 scored for the winners whereas Raisa Prazeres scored 6 points for PCCE.
Don Bosco College beat Shree Damodar College 7-6. Zenifa with 5 points top-scored for Don Bosco while Nelvie Mendes netted 4 points.
Mr Albert Fernandes, Asst. Registrar Finance was the chief
guest for the prize distribution function as he awarded trophies and medals to the winners.
Meanwhile, in the men’s group, Padre Conceissao College of Engineering, Verna and V M Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar will play in the finals of inter-college basketball at University Courts on September 29 at 9.30 am.
In the quarter-finals, Post Graduate Students of Goa University beat St Xavier’s College 35-31. Johan Braganza 15, Amish Jain 14, Warren Menezes 4 scored for PG whereas Kirk Duarte 9, Creig Menezes 8, Joyston Britto 6 scored for St Xavier’s.
PCCE beat S S Dempo College 38-32. Ashish Bhupal 16, Patrick Silveira 8 and Ashish Pednekar 6 scored for PCCE. Sidney Missier of Dempo scored 20 points followed by Abraham Menezes 10.
In the semis, PCCE beat Post Graduate Students 51-26. Patrick Silveira 20, Ashish Bhupal 10, Shelton Messias 6 played well for the winners. Johan Braganza scored 12, Amish Jain 4, Warren Menezes 4 scored for PG. V M Salgaoncar College of Law beat Dhempe College 16-12. Kher Simoes 8, S Santosh Rebello 3 , Aldrin Rodrigues 4 were the top contributors for Salgaoncar College.
