MAPUSA: St Sebastian Sports Club, Mapusa notched up their second consecutive win in the GFA 3rd Division League after they swept aside Sai Avtar Sports Club, Anjuna 5-2 in their third round match played at Tembi grounds, Anjuna, on Monday.
It was the home side who opened the scoring in the 5th minute, as Swapnil Kandolkar took advantage of a misjudgment by Mapusa keeper Manuel Viegas to slot the ball home.
However, eight minutes later Mapusa were back on level terms thanks to Steven Fernandes’ well executed free-kick.
The Mapusa outfit were hungry for goals and went into the breather with a goal’s cushion, as striker Mohidin Khan slammed home the ball, minutes before the breather.
Even at the change of ends, there was no respite for the Anjuna defenders as Steven went on to complete his brace with a fine solo effort while Anthony Viegas (67th) and skipper Joalan Fernandes (74th) also got their name into the scorers’ list.
Towards the finals stages of the match, Anjuna did reduce the margin through Abhijit Salgaocar, but their efforts proved a little too late.
At Chapora grounds, Vagator Sports Club and Chapora Yuvak Sangh were locked in a 2-2 draw.
