POINGUINNIM: St Anne’s Institute, Agonda-Canacona emerged winners of Canacona taluka U-14 Subroto Mukherjee inter-school football tournament, played at Devbhag grounds, Canacona.

In the final match played under heavy downpour, they got the better of Katyayani Bhaneshwar Vidhyalaya, Kindlem-Ponsulem via the penalty shoot-out (2-0). The finals turned out to be a dull affair with no goals scored during the regulation time and hence the match had to be decided via the tie-breaker.

Plim Fernandes and Lewis Fernandes were on target for St Anne’s while not a single player from Katyayani was on target.

Earlier, St Anne’s Institute beat Government Middle school Palolem 3-0 with the scorers being Plim (2) and Aman Komarpant.

The school manager Fr Mathew Fernandes and Headmaster Mr Pio Vales eulogized the good work and hard efforts of physical education teacher Mr Agnelo Pereira and also congratulated the students for this feat.
