Sporting trounce Churchill in Taca Goa league

MAPUSA: Musli Power Churchill Brothers (jrs), went down tamely 1-3 to Sporting Clube de Goa (jrs), in the 1st Division GFA U-20 Taca Goa Football League, played at Duler grounds here on Friday.

After today’s encounter, Sporting Clube de Goa have nine points, while Churchill Brothers are yet to open their account.
The match never rose to great heights in the first session, except for a glorious opportunity which was lost by skipper Sabino Rodrigues, whose header from close quarters was collected by Sporting keeper.
Much against the run of play Sporting took the lead through their impressive looking Stephene Barreto, who controlled a long pass from Xamaro Rodrigues, and drilled a superb left footer which crashed into the nylons.
Stephene almost doubled his score, but his header went just over the crosspiece, off Valzinho Fernandes corner.
Stung by the goal, Churchill exerted pressure, where their substitute Ashley Araujo’s stiff grounder, on entering the 18-yard box from the right flank, missed the target narrowly. However, two minutes later, Ashley got hold onto Jerry Pereira’s pass and finished by toeing the ball into the goal, leaving the Sporting keeper rooted to the ground.
At this stage it was keeper Shaik Razak, who led to Churchill Bros’ downfall, with some poor lapses.
First, the keeper unnecessarily left his charge, to find Pritam Ningthoutam, intelligently flick the ball into the empty goal, 2-1. Once again the keeper went out of the penalty box to collect a loose ball, prompting the referee Jayendra Nagvekar, to give the keeper the marching orders with a red booking.
From the resultant direct kick Mackroy Peixoto’s hot-blooded shot was blocked by substitute Churchill keeper Richie Rodrigues, where substitute Milton Gomes headed the ball past the keeper, 3-1.
