MAPUSA: Sirsaim Sports and Welfare Club registered a resounding 5-1 win over Eagles Sports Club, Sanquelim to glean full points in GFA’s 3rd Division League played at Tivim grounds, on Saturday.

Haresh Volvoikar gave Sanquelim a surprise 7th minute lead. However, Danny Dias struck from close range to level terms for Sirsaim in the 22nd minute.

Minutes later, Mahesh Kambli found the rival nets to hand Sirsaim a 2-1 lead at the breather.

The change of ends saw Sirsaim inflate their lead at regular intervals through Drynan Pereira (53rd minute), Danny and Mahesh.

At Siolim grounds, Tropa Sports and Cultural Association and Football Club of Siolim were locked in a goalless draw.

Sangolda sneak into finals

Sangolda Lightning rode their luck to enter the finals of 1st all-Goa 9-a-side Reis Magos Panchayat Cup, organised by Verem Boys, with a thrilling 9-8 win via sudden death of the tie-breaker over Saligao United at Verem Panchayat grounds.

The teams were locked 1-1, at the end of normal time. Martinho Fernandes put the Saligao outfit in front with a sublime finish. However, Sangolda restored parity minutes later, as veteran Thome Alvares’ sting 40-yard strike gave the rival keeper no chance whatsoever.

In the ensuing tie-breaker, Sangolda scored through Mahendra, Joseph, Thome, Devraj, Goving, Prashant and Nilesh, while MA Francis, Jostan, Tyson, Pravin, Cliffton, Dietmar and Judas were on target for Saligao.

Clube Sao Minguel enter semis

Clube Sao Minguel de Taleigao entered the semis of Maha Bank Platnium Trophy, organised by Adarsh YS, with a solitary goal win over Nuvem Sports Club at Calangute Association grounds, on Saturday.

In a fast-paced encounter, the teams were locked goalless at the end of the first session. However, 20 minutes into the crossover, Abbay Gawas broke the deadlock after receiving a pass from Cedric Peixoto.

Nuvem did have a couple of opportunities to level the issue but Rexson Cardozo and Neves Noronha muffed up easy sitters.

St Xavier’s Bardez Subroto champs

St Xavier’s Higher Secondary School, Mapusa added yet another feather to their cap when they emerged winners of the Bardez taluka U-17 Subroto Mukherjee Footbal Tournament organized by the Directortae of Sports and Youth affairs at Peddem Sports Complex, on Saturday.

Calancio Pinto struck a splendid hat-trick, while Lesten Martins also grabbed a goal as the Mapusa giants crushed St Joseph’s High Scool, Calangute 4-1.
