Sirsaim beat Sanquelim 2-1

MAPUSA: Sirsaim Sports & Welfare Club gleaned three valuable points after they overcame a spirited challenge from Sanquelim Football Club with a 2-1 win in the GFA’s 3rd Division League played at Tivim grounds, on Monday.

Sirsaim, who have begun life in Goa’s third tier competition after a brief two-year spell in the second division, started in the right earnest as lanky striker Drynan Periera found the mark in the 12th minute itself.

In the 29th minute, Pandurang Korgaonkar added his name to scoresheet and helped Sirsaim enter the breather with a two-goal cushion.

However, on crossing over, Sanquelim came back with a much-improved performance, which saw them reduce the deficit in the 59th minute through Ismail Faronuer.

Sanquelim did try and press for the precious equaliser but, suffered a jolt in the closing stages of the match when keeper Saish Goltekar was shown a straight red card for handling the ball outside the demarcated area.

At Quitula grounds, the match between AA de Moira and Quitula Sports Club had to be called off due to water logging of the play field.
