Sesa FA off to winning start

NEW DELHI:  Sesa Football Academy started their 2nd Division I-League campaign on a winning note, edging past Delhi league champions Hindustan FC 2-1 in the Group B preliminary round league match played at the Dr Ambedkar Stadium, Delhi.

In a gripping encounter, Hindustan FC took the lead through Mahender in the 7th minute to start the proceedings on a confident note but failed to sustain the lead as Israil Gurung brought Sesa back into the match scoring through a solo effort in the 42nd minute.  After the breather, Sesa stepped up the gas on their rivals and scored the winner through Savio Carniero in the 65th minute. It was  Israil Gurung again who paved the way for the second goal when he was brought down by Hindustan right wing back Anil Bara resulting in a penalty for the Goan outfit. Savio superbly placed the spot-kick to the left of the Hindustan custodian Vikrant to notch up three crucial points from the opening encounter.
It was a commendable performance by the Goan outfit as they displaced a tough side on home ground, though the margin of win was narrow. That spoke highly of the quality of the Sesa FA team as a winning start is always beneficial in a crucial tournament like the second division league. A winning start always sets the momentum for the rest of the tournament.
