MARGAO: Sao Jose de Areal entered the finals of Mae dos Pobres soccer when they registered a 2-0 victory against Navelim Villagers Union in an exciting semi-finals played at Nuvem church grounds, Friday. The teams were locked goalless in the first half.
Navelim Villagers Union had the upper hand in the first session of play and came very close to scoring but tries from Sukdev Arvade and Jose Colaco missed the target narrowly at least on two clear occasions.
In the second session, Sao Jose de Areal took control of the proceedings by spreading the ball towards the wings most of the time and this paid rich dividends to split the Navelim defence.
Sao Jose de Areal struck just five minutes into the second session when Raymond Fernandes beat the Navelim keeper with a good shot off a neat pass from Jose Furtado.
Dominating play thereafter, Areal put the game beyond the reach of Navelim lads when Mauro Rebello unleashed a powerful long range shot to score a fantastic goal.
Navelim Villagers Union made some forays in the last few minutes of play to reduce the margin but were found wanting in accurate shooting.
Sao Jose de Areal now meet Rossman Cruz SC, Nagoa-Verna in the finals scheduled on July 1.
