Sanjil Hoble wins Mormugao chess championship

VASCO: Sanjil Hoble won the first Mormugao Taluka Open Chess Championship, organised by Vasco Parents Chess Club (VPCC) at Regina Mundi School, Chicalim.

Sanjay Thorat won the second place while the third place was grabbed by Sudhakar Patgaar.

Bimappa Harijan, PP Insulkar, Sadanand Rawal, Mrinal Telang, Brendon Peroz, Datta Kambli and Rajat Vaskar won the other places.

In U-7 category, Sahil Dessai was the winner among boys and Charuta Shetye was the winner among girls. In U-9 category, Kshaunish Naik won the boys title and the girls title was won by Pranali Naik.

In U-11 category, Anirudh Parsekar and Sakshi Madkaikar were declared the winners in boys and girls categories respectively.

In U-13 category, Mayuresh Naik and Avaru Ramasirisha were the champions.

The award for youngest player of the tournament was presented to Lubna Mendonca.

The chairperson of Mormugao Municipal Council, Ms Fiola Rego was the chief guest for the prize distribution ceremony, while Mr Kishore Bandekar, Treasurer of Goa Chess Association was the guest of honour. Mr Prabhakar Insulkar was the special invitee. Those present on the occasion were VPCC president Mr Anish Parsekar, VPCC general secretary, Ms Pallavi Shirodkar and other executive members of
the VPCC.
